It’s always great being given the chance to be creative and run with your instincts. Our brief was that the sound design should be abstract. We were excited by the possibilities for creative sound design with this piece. The large machinery operating in the massive caves gave us a lot to play with. No audio recorded on location was used. Everything was created in post. To make it impactful and surreal we heavily processed all of the audio using massive cavernous reverbs and warped delays layered on top of custom drones. For the exterior section we warped and twisted metallic recordings until they sounded like alien seagulls. As there is no music in the mix we used the sound design in places to create tonal almost musical sounds.
